My husband and I went to MegaCon this Saturday and we had a great time, despite how crowded the convention was.
Some of the downsides of this year's convention, as I stated before, was attendance. While it is definitely good for the convention itself in terms of popularity and revenue, it was not so fun for the attendees. Even though they thought they prepared well enough by placing the convention in a much larger hall, there still was not enough space for elbow room and everyone's personal spaces were being invaded.
Traffic was also really bad. My husband and I waited in traffic for about 30-40 minutes before deciding to drive past the convention center to a nearby Walgreens and walk our way to MegaCon. It was really hot out that day, but it was a lovely walk nonetheless. What made it so lovely was not only did I get to walk hand-in-hand with my husband, but we saw a girl cosplaying as Tinker Bell having some car troubles on the side of the road, so we had a good laugh at that. I wanted to take a picture, but that would have been kicking a horse while it was down. So for now you will just have to imagine it.
Tinker Bell... a pixie fairy... that can fly... having car troubles....
My husband and I got there early just so that we could have photo op tickets for Danai Gurira (Michonne from The Walking Dead) and David Morrissey (The Governor from The Walking Dead), but unfortunately we were told that those tickets for the day were sold out. We were really disappointed about that, but at least we learned our lesson for future conventions we plan to attend and meet celebrity guests. Plus, we were able to spend more time walking around the showroom, taking pictures of cosplays we saw, and checking out all of the vendors.
Here are a few photos of my favorite cosplays:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Fancy Stormtrooper
Jose Carioca, from The Three Caballeros
Space Dandy (and me)
I took a lot more pictures, including some from the costume contest, but they are all up on my Facebook. If you would like to view them all, feel free to add me as a friend.
My husband and I really had a wonderful time, even with all of the crazy crowds, more fun than last year. I think this was because last year we were with my mom, sister, and sister's fiance, and my mom had to be in a wheelchair the whole time (not fun); this year it was just the two of us and we had the chance to go and do our own things that we wanted to do without being held back by anyone else.
He and I also bought a few souvenirs to take home. He purchased a scarecrow LEGO minifigure (he loves collecting them) and, what I assume to be, an Aliens take on Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man". I went home with an adorable pink Alpacasso adorned with a little blue hat and brown striped bowtie. I cannot wait until the day when we are both making lots of money and can buy even more merchandise and can have all the photo ops we want with whomever we want.

Another amazing part of my day was getting to meet Jim Cummings. He has contributed to making my childhood so magical through his voice acting, especially on The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. I would sit in my bedroom or playroom when I was little just watching those VHS tapes of that cartoon show over and over again, even when I got older and still had the tapes I would watch them whenever I felt nostalgic.
That concludes my recounting of my husband and I's MegaCon 2014 adventure. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read about my life :)
